I was born in New York City and given the name Elias Hudson Husiak by my parents Carole and John. Family and friends often call me Eli (or even E, Eechi, ichiban...), so the choice is yours! My dad wanted me to use the name "E. Hudson Husiak" as a professional name... but I had to disagree.
Theatre BC (before college)
As cheesy as it sounds, theatre has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. When I was in elementary school, my parents enrolled me in a theatrical after-school at the 13th Street Reporatory Theatre. In 5th grade, I enraptured audiences as Grandpa Joe in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (contact me for some very funny and unprofessional stories from that show). In middle school, I moved on to Anything Goes (Captain), The Pajama Game (Sid) and Grease (Danny). I then spent three years studying choir music and opera at LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and the Performing Arts. But then my senior year, I played Sweeney Todd in, you guessed it, Sweeney Todd.
Theatre IC (Ithaca College)
In 2015, I began my freshman year at Ithaca College. As a BFA musical theatre major I took classes like voice and speech, movement (masking, viewpoints, rasaboxes, etc), styles of acting (Shakespeare, Greeks, farce, high comedy, etc), acting for the camera, opera workshop, and lots (LOTS) more. I also have worked as a President's Host Tour Guide for Ithaca College during all four years!
My theatrical experience at Ithaca was incredibly fulfilling and extremely fun. My sophomore year, I played Reverend Salvation in The Cradle will Rock. Junior year, I was a fierce Kit Kat Boy in Cabaret (I learned to play the accordion for this role). And senior year, I played JP Morgan, Harry K Thaw and several other characters in Ragtime (with over 15 quick changes). I also had participated in smaller studio plays and student films!
An actor from a serious theatre program that can also do opera?!? Its too good to be true! So yes, in high school I majored in vocal studies at LaGuardia HS where I studied opera, classical and gospel choral music. My freshmen year at Ithaca I was cast in the chorus and the understudy for the lead bass role in the opera Semele. Then, to book-end my college experience, my senior year I was cast as Bob, the lead baritone role, in The Old Maid and the Thief. (Click HERE for production photos)
Off the stage...
Yes. Believe it or not, I DO have a little bit of life outside of theatre. I was born and raised in the East Village of NYC (Stuyvesant Town) on the very spooky day of October 13th (hence the pumpkin). I have two sisters. Kat Husiak is a marine biologist based in Seattle and Emily Greco was a special education teacher near Boston, but is currently getting her second masters degree in social work. My parents, Carole and John, met on a blind date in the early 90s. They now own a children's boutique on 1st ave btwn 19th and 20th streets called Ibiza Kidz. That's where I developed my gift wrapping skills. I'm very good.
